Compote of pears is a favorite drink from childhood. From the grandmother's pantry, these cans disappeared in the first place. Sweet and fragrant... as if he had returned to summer again! Choose dense, not overripe fruits to make the drink especially tasty.

Ingredients

  • Pear - 1,5 kg
  • Water - 2,5 l
  • Sugar - 400 g
  • Citric acid - 1,5 tsp.
  • Lemon zest (or orange) – to taste

Step-by-step cooking recipe

Wash the pears, cut into slices, after removing the tails and cores.

Place the sliced pears in a bowl with a solution of citric acid (based on 1 liter of water - 0.5 tsp. without a slide of citric acid). This will allow the fruits not to darken during cooking. Leave the blank for 10 minutes.

Then drain the liquid from the bowl into a saucepan and, gradually introducing sugar, cook the syrup. Depending on your taste preferences and the variety of pears, less sugar may be required.

If you want to add citrus notes to the pear compote, add a small amount of lemon or orange zest to the boiling syrup.

Pour boiling syrup over the pear slices in a bowl. Boil the compote over medium heat for 10 minutes.

Fill a pre-sterilized jar with a slotted spoon with pears by ¾.

Bring the syrup to a boil again and pour the pears in the jar to the top. Roll up the jar, turn it upside down and cool it. Store the cooled compote in a cool, dark place.
