For the classic pea soup with smoked meats, I prefer to use crushed peas. It's trite easier and faster, because it's better boiled. And if you want to speed up the process even more, use a slow cooker.

Step-by-step cooking recipe

Coarsely chop the smoked meat and all the vegetables. Rinse the chopped peas. You can soak it in advance for a couple of hours.

Put everything in the bowl of a slow cooker, pour water and season.

Turn on the soup cooking program for an hour.
