Boil the pearl barley until half-cooked according to the instructions.
Peel the tomatoes and cut into cubes.
Chop the onion, grate the carrots and put them with tomatoes in a saucepan with oil.
Simmer everything for 10-15 minutes, stirring.
Add chopped cabbage, sliced cucumbers, salt, sugar and spices as desired.
Simmer the vegetables for another 20 minutes.
Add vinegar and pearl barley. Simmer for another 10 minutes.
Roll up the pickle in sterile jars.
