Instead of tomato paste, you can add your favorite tomato sauce to borscht. Especially if it is immediately with spices and other vegetables. Homemade preparations are best suited, but everything will work out with store-bought sauces.

Coarsely chop the beef, cover with water and boil until tender.
Add the sliced potatoes, and after 10 minutes the cabbage.
Chop the onion and grate the beets with carrots on a grater.
Fry the onion and carrot for 5 minutes, add the beetroot, and after another 5 minutes tomato sauce.
Simmer everything together under the lid until the vegetables are ready and put in a saucepan.
Season the borscht and cook for another 10 minutes.
