I have been closing dogwood compote with apples for the winter for many years. I will share the recipe with you. Refreshing, slightly sour notes of dogwood are perfectly combined with the sweetness of apples. As for me, a great drink for the winter for the whole family, and even very useful.
Step-by-step cooking recipe
Sort out the dogwood, remove the twigs and tails, rinse under running water. Then flip it into a colander.
Peel the apples from the core, cut into slices. Boil the water.
Pre-sterilized warmed jars fill with dogwood and apples by a third, pour boiling water, cover with lids and leave the compote to cool to about 40 ° C.
When the compote has cooled enough, drain the liquid into a cooking pot, add sugar, bring to a boil over medium heat and boil for 5-7 minutes. Adjust the amount of sugar at your discretion, tasting the syrup. I usually don't make it very sweet.
Pour the ready-made hot syrup over the fruit in jars, roll it up, wrap it with a blanket and leave the jars upside down until completely cooled. Transfer the cooled compote to a cool, dark place for storage.
