In France, the snack has a beautiful name "croc-monsieur". The French sandwich is prepared with bechamel sauce, which can be cooked in advance. This is the only stage of the recipe that takes a lot of time. All other actions are performed quickly and easily.

Step-by-step cooking recipe

Melt the butter in a small saucepan.

Add flour and fry for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently.

Add salt, nutmeg and warm milk. Stir and cook the sauce until thickened.

Grate both types of cheese on a fine grater.

Cut the ham into thin slices.

Put two slices of bread on a covered baking sheet and brush with bechamel sauce.

Lay out the ham, sprinkle with two types of cheese.

Add some more sauce and cover the top with a second piece of bread.

Sprinkle the French sandwiches with the remaining cheese and bake for 5-7 minutes in an oven preheated to 220 degrees.
