The high-calorie and very nutritious donut of the Turkic peoples Baursak will safely replace the bread you are used to. This bread can be made on kefir, from yeast or unleavened dough and served as regular bread with soups and side dishes. It is also ideal for tea if you soak them with sweet sauce or honey.
Ingredients
- Kefir - 500 ml
- Flour - 750 g
- Chicken eggs - 1 piece
- Sugar - 2 art.l
- Vegetable oil - 2 tbsp.l
- Baking soda - 1 tsp
- Yeast - 12 g
- Salt - 1 h.l .
Step-by-step cooking recipe
To prepare the dough, use kefir of any fat content at room temperature, or heat it for a few minutes on low heat without bringing it to a boil. Add yeast, sugar, salt to the kefir, mix a little and set aside for 10-15 minutes to activate the yeast.
Add the beaten egg, vegetable oil and soda to the mass, mix thoroughly. Leave this mixture for another 10 minutes until small bubbles appear.
Sift the flour and add it gradually to the liquid mass. Mix thoroughly so that lumps do not appear.
Leave the dough for 20 minutes so that it fits well.
As soon as the dough fits well, take it out and roll it into a tube, divide it into small pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, put it on a baking sheet and sprinkle with a little flour.
Prepare the frying oil. As soon as the oil warms up to the desired temperature and begins to boil, dip a few balls into it. Fry the baursaks until golden brown.
Take out the balls on a paper towel to get rid of excess oil. Use as bread when taking main dishes or sprinkle with powdered sugar, honey or sweet sauce to serve them with tea.
